VDS

Virtual Dedicated Server, a software program that allows a server as a host to be sliced up into several independent and separate “virtual” servers with their own minimum guarantee of resources, such as CPU, memory, operating system, and application software.

Verisign Global Registry Services

formerly Network Solutions, Verisign is the entity assigned the responsibility for maintaining the global domain name registry.

Vienna Agreement

established in 1973 and amended in 1985, the Vienna Agreement establishes international classifications for marks that contain figurative elements.

virtual

the quality of assuming something without really being as such.

Virtual Dedicated Server

See VDS.

virtual IP

an IP address that is dynamically created on the fly temporarily for just the session one is connected to a network.

Virtual Name Server

an alias DNS zone program on a server that maps domain names and IP addresses to a private domain name server. Used for Private labeling. See also Virtual Server.

Virtual Private Networking

is the creation of a secured point to point connection over a private or public network using TCP/IP protocols.

Virtual Server

a server that is shared by others, where each uses the resources of the server as though it were there own. Also known as a VPS.

VNS

Virtual Name Servers. Also more commonly referred to as Private Name Servers. A VNS is an alias for the name of the actual Name Server.

VPN

Virtual Private Network, is a password protected private network that runs over the Internet, utilizing the public network infrastructure of the WWW.

VPS

Virtual Private Server, similar to the VDS, except that one leases only the portion of the virtual server that is sliced up, where as in the VDS, one can own or rent the entire “dedicated” server. See also VDS.

VS

Virtual Server. See VPS.
