Unsolicited Commercial E-mail, otherwise known as SPAM.

uDNS

an independent global registry service providing an alternate root DNS system that is not approved or sanctioned by ICANN.

UDP

User Datagram Protocol, a communications protocol for exchanging data units called datagrams across a network. UDP is a connectionless protocol where the data units are not reassembled by the receiving server.

UDRP

Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy adopted by ICANN on October 25, 1999.

UNIX

an operating system software that is commonly used for web servers.

unmultiplexed

refers to a signal that is sent by itself over a network or telecommunications line, and not layered with other signals. See also multiplexed, and baseband.

upload

to send files to your server over the Internet via your workstation.

unsponsored TLD’s

TLD’s that are open to the public for registration and do not have specific criteria that needs to be met by the registrant.

URI

Uniform Resource Identifier, is a general term to refer to a web address.  A URL is a type of URI.

URL

Uniform Resource Locator contains the FQDN, which is the domain name or IP address that is used to identify the specific address of a host or website on a network that is being requested by a client.

uTLD

unsponsored TLD, also known as unrestricted TLD, where the TLD is open to the public and there are no restrictions for membership or registration.
