E

edge servers

are distributed cache servers (of a CDN) that are accessed through the DNS.

eDNS

Enhanced Domain Name System, is an independent global registry that provides an alternate root DNS system, that is authoritative, which is not endorsed or supported by the authoritative root that is operated by ICANN.

EFF

Electronic Frontier Foundation, an advocacy group concerned with the legal and social issues that surround the use of computers as a means of communication and the dissemination of information.

E-mail

Electronic mail, a method of exchanging electronic messages across a network.

ESI

Edge-Side Includes, similar to SSI, but edge servers, part of the CDN, dynamically insert content into webpages rather than the webserver doing it. ESI are more scalable than the traditional SSI because of the distributed architecture versus the single concentrated architecture of an SSI-based website.

Ethernet

Is a network architecture defined by the IEEE standard 802.3 that allows for transmission of data using frame format protocols. The Ethernet architecture utilizes CSMA/CD technology.

extranet

a TCP/IP based network that connects partner companies with each other, or to its distributors, wholesalers, affiliates, and customers.
