About Us

We provide the most comprehensive DNS & Internet Glossary that you will find anywhere.  In addition, DNSnews.net provides links for all of your DNS related needs including Organizations, Providers, Resources, and Tools which are arranged in a logical and concise format.

DNS stands for Domain Name System, and consists of a distributed database which translates domain names into  IP (Internet Protocol) web addresses, when a domain name is entered into an Internet browser.

DNS allows the computer's browser known as a client, to resolve a domain name by returning an IP address after several iterative processes of requests. The returned IP address identifies precisely where the requested website is located or hosted, via a webserver connected to the Internet. The client then requests the webpage from the webserver.  The webpage is then served up when the client's browser loads the requested information or webpage from the original query or search, of the queried domain name request.

You may learn more about how DNS works by viewing our DNS Processes FlowChart. You may also lookup numerous DNS terms or definitions with our DNS & Internet Glossary.
